A Pinterest Adventure

Do you use Pinterest?  If you aren't familiar with it, it's a really handy (and slightly addictive) site that allows you to keep all the cool ideas you find online in one neat, tidy place.  You set up boards for whatever categories you'd like, then "pin" links to them, either by re-pinning pins from other users or by adding a new pin by pasting the link to your account.  Pinterest will search for images in that page, and you pick which one you'd like to represent your link.  Think of it as advanced, visual bookmarking!

Earlier this week, our cousin Nicci posted the following on Facebook:
So today devin asked me if i ever did anything i put on pinterest and i said no so he decided we were gonna go on a "pinterest adventure" we made tank tops out of my old t shirts, went to sprouts and got ingredients for a week of freezer meals for the crockpot, made bath fizzies, and found an old mirror to paint (yes paint). Sometimes i feel pretty lucky ;)
A "Pinterest Adventure" - How fun is that?  It made me think of my friend Shaina's blog series, "Stop Pinning, Start Doing."  And really, isn't that the purpose of Pinterest to begin with?  To actually use the ideas you have stored there??  I have tons of awesome ideas pinned to my boards, but I have only actually used one or two of them.  I want to go on a "Pinterest Adventure" like Devin & Nicci.  I am inspired!  So here are a few of my pins that I think I'll focus on first:

Turning a Bar of Soap Into Liquid Handsoap.  I found this while just browsing through things other users had pinned.  At the time I thought, "yeah, that's kinda neat," but didn't really intend to try it anytime soon, if at all (if we're being honest).  Then I noticed at dealseekingmom.com that you could get two bars of Yardley soap for free at CVS this week.  Then I remembered that we're almost out of liquid soap at home.  THEN I remembered Nicci's post on Facebook.  Well, I had to go to CVS at lunch today anyway, so now I have two free bars of Yardley soap sitting in my CVS shopping bag next to my desk, waiting to go home and be made into liquid soap at some point this weekend.  :)

Something else I intend to try from my boards this weekend is this recipe for Skinny Chocolate Chip Buttermilk Scones.  I have to say I do use my Food & Drink board all the time.  I'm a bit of a recipe hoarder, and this is the perfect spot for me to save all the recipes I find until I can get around to entering them in MacGourmet, the awesome app that lets me keep all my recipes organized in one place and even syncs between my iPhone and MacBook.  Love it.  Anyway, Skinny Taste is my very favorite recipe website, and so I added this pin myself earlier this week when I was searching for a recipe to use up some leftover buttermilk, which is a rare purchase in our house.  I think I'll make these scones in the morning!

Sometimes pins from others lead you back to a spam website that really has nothing to do with the subject matter of the pin.  The next pin I plan to start using ASAP was one of those...BUT that's OK because in this case, you don't really need any website to tell you how to do something; the pin itself contains the idea.  (And you can edit the pin to remove the spammy link!) This idea is definitely something I want to start using.  I haven't been exercising since our vacation, and boy can I tell a difference in my energy level...not to mention the numbers that keep creeping back up on the scale.  I think I will start an exercise jar and set a goal for something totally indulgent like a pedi or facial with a certain beautician friend of mine!

  1. I love that you're doing some of your pinned projects!! wahoo! :) If feels good to actually DO things instead of just PINning them, eh? ;) Thanks for linking to my project. I've had fun with it. And let me know how the soap thing turns out. That ones seems really cool!

    1. I haven't gotten around to any of them just yet...our weekend ended up being busier than I had expected. I still plan to though and will definitely share my results!
