Camping Trip
This past weekend, Brandon & I went camping with some of our friends at Buck's Pocket State Park in Groveoak, AL. The weather couldn't have been more perfect, and we hadn't been camping in years, so we were really looking forward to it.
I took off work at lunch on Thursday and went home to finish loading the car. Brandon & Mike were loading up the truck at the same time, and then we set off. Madilyn rode with me, and Jace road with Rachel & her kids. We had a little caravan going on. I am still in awe at what all the guys fit into Brandon's little S-10. We looked like the Clampetts driving off toward the park!
A few hours later, we arrived at the park. Well, all of us except the guys did...but they made it eventually! After picking out our site, we ended up having to set up our tents in the dark. At least Mike brought a spotlight, so that helped. Once we had all four tents set up, Mike grilled hamburgers & hot dogs for dinner. It was nice to finally sit down and relax for the night and visit. LeAnn even made it in from Georgia that night, thanks to Jace insisting that she come right after work!
Friday morning we all took our time getting up and around. Once everyone was awake, we made breakfast burritos and sat around the fire with our coffee. Around 10:00, Jeannie made it to our campsite. She had had to work the night before and came straight over after her shift was over. Most of our day Friday consisted of sitting around the campfire and just enjoying the beautiful weather. Jeannie threw together some chili in her slow cooker, so we didn't even have to cook for dinner that night.
Saturday morning, I made chocolate gravy for breakfast while Mike made biscuits and Jeannie cooked bacon. We even had some croissants that LeAnn brought. It was all really good! Saturday was also game day. The guys had it all planned out. Mike brought his DirectTV and set it up so that they could watch all their games that day. And since Ole Miss & Alabama each won their games, everyone was happy!
While the guys were watching the Ole Miss game, Jeannie & I took Bogart & the girls with us up to the park overlook. It was really pretty. I bet when the leaves change, it is gorgeous!
Saturday's supper consisted of Mike's awesome drunk chickens, & mac & cheese with some jalapeno poppers as appetizers earlier in the evening. We even got to taste some fried alligator from the campers down the road who came to watch the Alabama/Florida game with us. (Get it? Fried alligator for the game against the Gators?) It was delicious!
Sunday after a late breakfast, we all packed up to go home. We finally got out of the park around 2:00. On the way home, we stopped at Steak 'n Shake for dinner, which was really good but took a long time. We got home a little after 8:00. It had been a really fun weekend trip, but it was back to the real world on Monday.
